Auricular Acupuncture (Five Point Protocol)
This form of acupuncture involves the placement of up to five needles in each ear. The Five Point protocol (also known as NADA) is a series of points on the ear which assist with relaxation, stress relief, support with anxiety, depression, overwhelm, as well as cravings and recovery. Many people find their physical symptoms improve when they support their nervous system through this protocol (for example, someone finding their eczema flares less).
Receiving a Treatment
One to One treatments are approximately 45 minutes, with time for a brief consultation (or follow up) and placement of the needles. Once the needles are placed, you will remain comfortably seated or lying down for 30 minutes. I remain in the room with you, should you want any needles adjusted or removed during that time. Many clients experience deep relaxation during their treatment or may even fall asleep.
FAQs
I have a fear of needles, is there any way I can receive a treatment?
The needles are not inserted deeply within the ear, approximately 3 mm. If you would like to avoid their use completely, you could opt for ear “pellets” or studs that would remain on the ear for 2-7 days. Please contact me before booking if this is your preference.
What if I experience pain during the treatment?
There can be some discomfort during the initial placement of the needles, but this usually passes within a few seconds. People can feel a variety of sensations during the treatment, which may include itchiness or a dull ache. I work with all my clients to minimize these feelings by reducing the depth of the needles or removing them when necessary.
In what situations can I not receive a treatment?
There are only a few situations in which a treatment can’t be provided, which are the following: during the first trimester of pregnancy (as a precaution), if you have haemophilia, if your ears are entirely covered with lesions or skin disorders (like eczema/psoriasis) or if you arrive intoxicated / under the influence. If one or both ears are cauliflowered, please contact me prior to booking.
